Funerals

A funeral or thanksgiving service is a time to mark the end of a loved one’s life, a husband or wife, a family member or a friend. Family and friends come together to express grief, to give thanks for a life lived and to commend the person into God's keeping. These can be a small, quiet ceremony or a large occasion in a packed church.

Anyone is welcome to have a service in their local parish church regardless of whether they attended church or not.  Our churchyard is closed so burials take place at West Hoe Cemetery. After a service, many have a cremation which is usually at Wessex Vale Crematorium at Hedge End. There are various options for placing ashes which can be discussed with the clergy taking the service, or funeral director. St Peter’s has a garden of remembrance and further details of who may place ashes there can be obtained via our church office.
